Nolan v. Halseth, Round Two

By Elizabeth Crum | 4:34 pm May 19th, 2010

For round one see my post yesterday.

Elizabeth Halseth was also on Heidi Harris’s show earlier this week with the father of the sexual assault victim whose attacker was a friend of state Senator Dennis Nolan.

Tomorrow, Dennis Nolan will be on with Heidi to refute the claims made by both.  He will be live at 5:30 AM.

Hearing Gibbons, Sandoval May Be Backing Out of Friday’s KDWN Debate

By Elizabeth Crum | 11:21 am April 27th, 2010

This is unconfirmed but I believe reliable (we’re working to verify and get statements):

Word on the street is that Governor Gibbons has to back out of Friday’s debate at the Orleans in Las Vegas due to a scheduling conflict.  And I’m hearing Sandoval has subsequently said, “I’m out.”

Will report on candidates’ (stated) reasons when we have them, or let you know if this is really the case.

If it plays out this way, will Montandon still show up and speak?  And will he bash the other two for not being present?  And, more specifically, will he bash Brian Sandoval for not showing up to debate him one-on-one?

And how will it play for Sandoval (and Mayor Mike) if it is perceived by the base that Sandoval thinks he is “too good” to debate “just” Montandon?

Sidebar:  It’s easy to criticize a candidate for not showing up at an event, but campaign trails are very grueling what with a gazillion forums and debates and appearances and dinners and fundraisers.  Sometimes a candidate has to pass over one thing for another, or something comes up after-the-fact that has to take priority.  A candidate rarely backs out of a debate unless he/she feels they have no choice, so we should give Gibbons the benefit of the doubt until we get the scoop.

Update – 2:45 PM: Just so it is known to you, here and now, should you read this post before my follow up post, Governor Gibbons in fact was never confirmed for this debate.  He did wish to participate and tried to work it out, but he had an event conflict and this was known both to he and the event organizers at KDWN back on March 19th.

“Showdown in Searchlight” Tea Party Rally: Saturday, March 27

By Elizabeth Crum | 2:35 pm March 4th, 2010

My Inbox is full of requests for “more info” re: the big Tea Party rally at 12:00 noon in Searchlight on Saturday, March 27.  Here’s what I’ve got so far (and will update this post as new stuff comes in, so keep checking back):

– Location:  Intersection of Coyote Mine Rd and US-95 N in Searchlight.  Follow the signs to the Tea Party Express Buses & Stage.  (If you get to Route 164/Nipton Road/Cottonwood Cove Road, you went too far.)

– The Tea Party Express (TPX) folks are sending out event press releases galore as part of their “Defeat Harry Reid” campaign.  Their press releases all start thusly:

“Join us from March 27th to April 15th, 2010 as we tell Congress and the White House: “Enough!” Let’s stand up and stop the bailouts, cap and trade, out-of-control spending, government-run healthcare and higher taxes! We’re back and determined to take our country back!”

TPX is calling the event — the kickoff of their big road trip that ends in Boston on April 14/15 — the “Showdown in Searchlight mega rally” and list the following peeps as speakers:

Key note:  Sarah Palin

Dirk Armey

Joe the Plumber

Wayne Allyn Root, former Libertarian Party Vice-presidential candidate

Victoria Jackson, former Saturday Night Live personality

and radio talk show hosts:

Roger Hedgecock

Heidi Harris

Jerry Doyle

Mark Williams

Melanie Morgan

Apparently TPX is also organizing (1) a morning caravan from Laughlin to the noon rally in Searchlight, (2) a second caravan up to Henderson for the “grand finale rally” of the day and (3) charter buses from all over the place to Searchlight.  For info on caravans and TPX out-of-area charters, email or call Tiffany at 916 764-0708.

The Showdown in Searchlight Facebook page has complete details.  And you can view their TV ad here (they claim it is the 15th most viewed news/politics video on YouTube).

Mike Wiley Drops Out of U.S. Senate Race

By Elizabeth Crum | 11:29 am February 12th, 2010

I guess Wiley dropped out sometime yesterday, according to blogger Dullard Mush.  I try to stay on top of all things political, Dear Readers, but I missed this one.  With Kozak’s withdrawal and switch to AD-31 the other day, that reduces the field to…8.  I think.

Update (2/13/10):  Here’s the missive Wiley sent out at the time:

End of a Political Career

Update (2/15/09):  If you did not click through to Wiley’s good-bye letter or Dullard Mush’s post, you missed the best part of the Wiley rant:

“My biggest mistake was thinking that the alleged ‘Conservative’ Radio Talk Show Hosts in Las Vegas and Reno would give everyone running an equal opportunity to meet the listeners and answer questions. I was wrong and many good conservative candidates could not get their message out because the local talk show hosts were playing G-d with the radio waves.”

I provide it here as an update because over the weekend Heidi Harris, KDWN’s first lady of conservative talk radio, emailed me with the following (amusing) statement:

”I soured on Mr. Wiley when he demanded to be on my show, accusing me of favoring certain candidates….the viable ones, I guess.  When that didn’t work, he gave me an ultimatum.  “I’ll give you until September 15th to have me on your show, or your NEVER will”.

Sadly, I had to pass on the Charming Mr. Wiley’s limited time offer. Seems to me that if you’re rude to the people who can provide you exposure that may help you get elected…how will you treat your constituents?”

Wiley says he will never run for office again, but I have a feeling we have not seen/heard the end of him.
