Nevadans Now Being Notified Of Reactivation Of Extended Federal Jobless Benefits

CARSON CITY – Nevadans who are eligible to have their jobless benefits reactivated can expect letters by next week with instructions, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation (DETR) said today.

The agency began mailing letters Thursday to individuals whose Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) claims are being reinstated following action by Congress last week to extend federal unemployment benefits through November.

One unemployed Nevadan who was happy to hear the news is Carol Tidd of Las Vegas, who saw her unemployment benefits stop in early June. She expects to be eligible retroactively for the extended benefits.

“I’m glad they finally started moving on it,” she said. “It is very important. We’ve been able to keep a roof over our heads and the basics.”

Tidd said she has applied for over 100 jobs so far without success. She has been out of work since January. Her last job was with a gaming company.

The unemployment rate in Las Vegas was 14.5 percent in June.

“I have the education, I’ve got an MBA,” she said. “It is frustrating. I’d rather be employed than have unemployment.”

The agency’s unemployment telephone claim centers will also be open on Saturdays to assist with the anticipated overload of callers filing claims and requesting prior weeks of unemployment benefits, said Cindy Jones, DETR deputy director and Employment Security Division administrator.

“We continue to carefully stage our computer systems to ensure their ability to handle the accurate processing of claims,” she said. “It is important that claimants follow instructions mailed to them. With the cooperation of eligible benefit recipients, we can ensure their benefits are paid as quickly as possible.”

The call centers will be open on July 31, Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

“With the unemployment rate soaring to 14.2 percent, the number of Nevadans seeking benefits continues to be high,” Jones said. “There are now over 88,000 people receiving regular unemployment benefits, and another 40,000 plus who may be eligible for the various types of federally paid extensions recently reactivated by approved legislation.”

Callers are urged to be prepared when making a request for the prior weekly claims to be filed. The following are some tips to remember:

- If you have worked since you stopped receiving your extended benefits, be sure to have all your employment information ready when calling. This includes your most recent two employers.

- You will be asked to certify that you have been seeking work and available to accept work for the weeks you are requesting payment.

- Once your past weekly claims have been processed, you will be able to file your next weekly claim by telephone or on-line at www.expressclaim.org.

- Nevada Unemployment Insurance Telephone Claim Center Telephone Numbers are: Northern Nevada – (775) 684-0350, Southern Nevada – (702) 486-0350, rural Nevada and out-of-state – (888) 890-8211.

Looks like NV DETR has lied to everyone once again. Mailed Thursday? Really? Then why has nobody received them? Are you going to now blame it on the USPS, instead of you and your incompetent employees? Pull your heads out of your A$$es. It is so difficult to comprehend the level of laziness on the part of them and the rest of the government.

I’ve called Carson city and got the same story, and yet still no letters. I fear I won’t have a place to mail to when these “letters” start to actually come. What a cluster, they want us to die off I think, we need a revolution today!

  3. charlotte says:

My mom received her letter today.

  4. David says:

It only takes one or two days tops for the USPS to deliver letters in state. So where are they? By begining to mail does that mean we are starting to think about mailing them?

  5. Tony says:

How long does it take to get your money after you receive the letter?

  6. Peter says:

    Yes, where are the letters?

Been unemployed for 1 1/2 years and NOT but choice. Who doesn’t want a make a contribution to the community and feel like a person again. Unemployment is emotionally draining especially when there are no jobs out there!

The last check of Federal benefits ended June 22 and I’m on the last tier of 6 additional weeks. My calcuations tell me that starting August 3, I’d have to claim the State 20 week unemployment. I was told that is process is harder to claim and a matter or reapplying again because they don’t do it over the phone or online.

Any which way, I still need to call and find out how to proceed. Can’t seem to get through since July 30th!

Anyone know how the State unemployment benefits work?

    Peter

You would have thought someone would have thought about the expense of send the letters via USPS and would have mail merged them and attached them to emails…oh I forgot we are dealing with an incompetent government bureaucracy.

    Fed up with the morons

  8. Erika says:

has ANYONE received a letter yet. Rent is due and I know other states are already getting paid. Why is Nevada taking so long?

Having been layed off almost right at the stock market crash, November 2008, I don’t know if I can still qualify. (I count 84 weeks including EUC) However, given that ‘you probably couldn’t buy a job now’, not even the ‘so called in NV’ jobs nobody wants, I feel NV with its 14.2% ‘registered’ unemployed (who knows how high unemployment really is) should allow us to be the exception to the 99′er rule. Anyone agree?

I was on SEB when they cut off unemployment payments. I have a balance remaining and have as far as I can figure 7 weeks after that. I have been on the phone daily hitting redial even Sat. and can NOT get through. With the amount of people who need this money it seems to me that they would have added lines and people to handle all the calls. I have NOT recieved a letter, non, nada but I did recieve a payment on 8-3 for week ending 6-19. This payment was for one week ONLY – I have sent emails as well and no reply. A lot of other states have sent their money in full and started the fileing for current claims. Why is Nevada taking so long. They have received the funds, What are they doing with the money. Why can’t we get a letter of some kind to let us know what, why etc. Some of my friends have received letters that say they will be getting a letter-HA HA. Hows that for letting people know what to do. So behind in everything and feel so bad for people with families. I at least have only myself and my cat, of couse she comes first. I have meds to buy on top of everything else. Just don’t understand why NV is dragging their *** when people ard hurting, It took so long to get this thing passed you would think that they had used that time to make things move quickly and smoothly. Right. Am amazed that with so many people looking for a job these people still have theirs. They should consider the fact that no one is irreplaceable. It could be them next. I know several people who are lucky they are still employed but those people know at least two friends out of work, some have 5 or 6 friends out of work.
I am close to the 99′er rule but not their yet and feel like they should get off their butts and do something.

I received my letter 2 weeks ago. I have been trying to get through to the phone line for the last 2 weeks, with nothing but a busy signal. Today I finally got through, with an estimated wait time of 80 minutes.
