Jason:

Hm. I did not detect any wryness in that clip, nor did I see evidence of it in Reid's full floor statement, which I read. (Did you?) And having reviewed Reid's follow-up remarks, just now, it doesn't seem "I was being sarcastic" is part of the explanation equation. He says he was making a larger point (the same one I summed-up at the end of my blog post).

But: Thanks for stopping by to tell us how stupid and humorless the right wing is (or did you just mean me?)

And: Crucify? Methinks thou dost overstate, because I did no such thing.

But: If you insist on using the term, at least give me credit for being an equal-opportunity crucifier. I poke fun at folks on both sides of the aisle when they say or do silly things, as anyone familiar with me or this blog knows.

Of course, and this is the really terrifying part, Reid could actually believe that the latest figures really are good news - which would be in keeping with just how out of touch our supposed leaders in Washington are.

Regardless, Reid doesn't do this type of thing well, doesn't excel at wry observation.

He should probably stick to killing health care reform, or voting for more war or supporting the same pro-corporatist policies that have gutted the middle class.

Tough call, no?

Elizabeth,

It's called sarcasm - something the right wing apparently has trouble with, considering it requires one to consider two or more competing thoughts/observations while at the same time pressing down one's commentary - distilling, if you will - through humor (humor, of course, being another concept that absolutely stupefies the already stupefied, unless that humor is of the lowest common denominator).

I'm certainly no defender/fan of Reid - his policies and votes have done as much harm to this country as the neocon oil monkeys who did their masters' bidding by invading Iraq - but still: We're dipping juuuuuust a tad too deeply into that proverbial barrel today, aren't we? Really?

There are so many other things for which you could crucify Searchlight's favorite son - and be fully justified in doing so.
